Why MMORPG is addictive?

There are several reason why MMORPG is addictive to people:

1) Gamers' Self-esteem
Every human in the real world hope to be number one and respect by everyone around them. However, not everyone will be able to do so. Some gamers will found that if they can gain a high ranking in the game or high virtual status, they will be respected by the other gamers in the virtual world. Because of the self-esteem, gamers will keep fighting for points and levels in the game. To reach certain level and achieve high skills, a gamer will need to stay in front of the computer continuously. Gamers can make as many friends inside the virtual world and will feel that they no longer needs real worlds' friends and family, and as a result they addicted to the game.

2) Continuous Episodes
It is very often than an MMORPG will have more than one episode. For example, World of Warcraft (WoW) has released few episodes like The Frozen Throne, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm. It is also part of the marketing strategy of the gaming companies. When the game reach the maturity level, the company will launch another new version of the game to make the gamers stay loyal. As a serious gamer, they will definately committed to the game because they might feel unworthy to give up in the half way.

3) Rewards and Development
In every MMORPG game, every gamer will have their own virtual character. Those character need time to grow and become powerful. If the gamer want his character to become powerful in shorter time, he need to fight for experiences and points in the game extensively. When the game reach certain level, the server will reward gamers with virtual gold, credits, and weapons. As a long-term effect, people will started to get addicted in the virtual world to battle for privilege status.
